Instead, each of the 208 CPA employees will get $150 in cash\u2014not as a \u201cbonus\u201d but as a form of a \u201csubsistence\u201d allowance.<\/p>\n<p>The CPA board of directors approved Tuesday during a special meeting the proposal to give each CPA staff $150 for 208 employees \u2014a total of $31,200\u2014rather than spending the money for the Christmas party.<\/p>\n<p>CPA board financial affairs committee chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds said all CPA staff from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will receive the cash.<\/p>\n<p>The directors are not entitled to the allowance. <\/p>\n<p>CPA personnel committee chair Roman Tudela said they have to be careful not to use the word \u201cbonus\u201d because there will be tax for it.<\/p>\n<p>Tudela proposed to call it subsistence in response to the Super Typhoon Yutu recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<p>A smiling CPA board chair Thomas P. Villagomez then announced, \u201cNo Christmas party!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The giving of cash to employees was among the agenda discussed at Tuesday\u2019s special meeting at the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting classroom at the Francisco C. Ada\/Saipan International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Also present at the meeting were directors Pete Reyes, Barrie C. Toves, and Joseph Diaz, along with some CPA officials and employees. <\/p>\n<p>When Saipan Tribune left the meeting Tuesday past 3pm, the directors were still in executive session. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There will be no Christmas party for the Commonwealth Ports Authority employees this year.
