{"id":289941,"date":"2018-12-07T06:00:13","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T20:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=289941"},"modified":"2018-12-07T06:00:13","modified_gmt":"2018-12-06T20:00:13","slug":"japanese-autumn-festival-moved-to-spring-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/japanese-autumn-festival-moved-to-spring-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Autumn Festival moved to spring 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Saipan still recovering from Super Typhoon Yutu damage, the annual Japanese Autumn Festival that was originally scheduled for late October this year has been moved to early 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese Society of the Northern Marianas chair Masato Tezuka announced that the festival, which they organize every year, has been moved to Feb. 9, 2018, at the Paseo De Marianas.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike prior autumn festivals, there would be no ceremony at the Katori Jingu Shrine at the Sugar King Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Due to tremendous damage caused by Super Typhoon Yutu just two days before the festival, we had no other option except for postponing it,\u201d he said in a statement announcing the festival\u2019s postponement. <\/p>\n<p>The festival was originally scheduled for Oct. 27, 2018. <\/p>\n<p>The re-scheduled festival would be held on Feb. 9, 2019, from 11am to 3pm only and would feature traditional Japanese demonstrations and dances, along with food vendors selling popular Japanese food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe offer our deep sympathies for those who were affected and pray for the quick recovery of the community,\u201d Tezuka said. \u201c\u2026This was a truly unfortunate result as we made a good preparation for this festival for more than several months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the extensive destruction wrought by Yutu, Tezuka noted that the spring theme for the festival was perfect since spring in Japan symbolizes a \u201cnew life\u201d emerging from hardship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to celebrate this festival as the \u2018Spring Festival\u2019 after suffering the difficult time since the end of October and by sharing the spirit of \u2018Marianas Strong,\u2019\u201d Tezuka said in the same statement.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that in Japan, February is the month for welcoming spring and is regarded as a time when everybody \u201cstarts feeling the new life after the long winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis festival is one of many examples of the historic ties between the Marianas and Japan, and our society is warmly welcoming all residents and visitors,\u201d Tezuka said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Saipan still recovering from Super Typhoon Yutu damage, the annual Japanese Autumn Festival that&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[6720,21,19402,23107],"class_list":["post-289941","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-japanese-society","tag-life","tag-masato-tezuka","tag-super-typhoon-yutu"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/289941","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/22"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=289941"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/289941\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=289941"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=289941"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=289941"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
