The Lady Diann Torres Foundation has already managed to raise at least $100,000 in in-kind donations for the CNMI\u2019s Super Typhoon Yutu relief efforts, according to a foundation representative.<\/p>\n
Claudia Flores, the foundation\u2019s program coordinator, said yesterday that the foundation has already amassed about $100,000 worth of in-kind donations for post-recovery efforts on Saipan and Tinian, adding that the number continues to rise.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have some local corporate sponsors. \u2026We also have Guam and Rota involved,\u201d she said. She emphasized that the estimated $100,000 in donations is only for Typhoon Yutu victims and do not include cash. <\/p>\n
Ayuda Luta, a relief drive that collected $8,000 for Rota victims of Typhoon Mangkhut only two weeks after the typhoon, has also helped out in the wake of Yutu. \u201cSince they got hit hard by Typhoon Mangkhut, Rota felt it was time to give back to both Tinian and Saipan,\u201d Flores said.<\/p>\n
The foundation has also received in-kind donations from both the East Coast and West Coast in the U.S. mainland, such as San Diego\u2019s House of Chamorros.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also been reaching out to other shelterees and we are getting involved with other agencies and collaborating with them to give back to our community and get back to normalcy,\u201d Flores said. <\/p>\n
According to her, the foundation has been working nonstop since Typhoon Mangkhut, which hit Rota and Guam in early September 2018. Super Typhoon Yutu hit Saipan and Tinian in late October 2018.<\/p>\n
The in-kind donations include tarps for makeshift roofs, mosquito nets, water, portable stoves, butane gas, adult and baby diapers, among others.<\/p>\n
