{"id":291060,"date":"2018-12-28T06:06:06","date_gmt":"2018-12-27T20:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=291060"},"modified":"2018-12-28T06:06:06","modified_gmt":"2018-12-27T20:06:06","slug":"cuc-collection-plunges-60-47-pct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cuc-collection-plunges-60-47-pct\/","title":{"rendered":"CUC collection plunges 60.47 pct."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From $10.6 million in September, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.\u2019s power billing collection nosedived to just $4.2 million last November\u2014a steep 60.47-percent decrease\u2014in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu\u2019s devastation. <\/p>\n<p>That makes it the lowest amount that CUC collected for power since October 2017, according to acting chief financial officer Corina Magof\u00f1a in her recent presentation to the CUC board.<\/p>\n<p>The $4.2 million in power collection is for the month that ended on Nov. 30, 2018, she added.<\/p>\n<p>Power collection for the month of October 2018\u2014when Yutu hit the CNMI\u2014was $5.3 million, Magof\u00f1a  said.<\/p>\n<p>CUC expects another significant drop in power collection this December.<\/p>\n<p>Yutu struck Saipan and Tinian last Oct. 24 and 25.<\/p>\n<p>Water collection last September amounted to $763,000; it dropped to $461,000 last November\u2014a 39.58-percent decrease.<\/p>\n<p>Last October, water collection was at $796,000.<\/p>\n<p>Sewer collection was at $242,000 last September and it dropped to $115,000 last November, for a 52.47-percent decrease. Last October, sewer collection was at $239,000.<\/p>\n<p>In total, Magof\u00f1a  said, power, water, and sewer collections for November totaled $4,765,902. <\/p>\n<p>Other revenue sources\u2014such as customer deposits, penalties, and miscellaneous\u2014was at $71,248.
