{"id":291251,"date":"2019-01-04T06:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T20:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=291251"},"modified":"2019-01-04T06:00:36","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T20:00:36","slug":"manamko-center-reopens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/manamko-center-reopens\/","title":{"rendered":"Man\u2019amko Center reopens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Man\u2019amko Center, or the Saipan Office on Aging Center in Garapan opened its doors to the elderly yesterday, attracting about 60 on its first day.<\/p>\n<p>Executive director Walter Manglona said this was the first time for the center to accommodate the elderly since the devastation of Super Typhoon Yutu, when the center was temporarily used as an emergency short-term shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the center\u2019s low-key reopening, about 60 of the center\u2019s 80 man\u2019amko members still showed up as of 12pm yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Manglona said that some members asked to be picked up on Monday. \u201cSome of them are still doing errands,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Manglona said his office is looking at talking with the man\u2019amko the idea of a late holiday celebration since the man\u2019amko were unable to meet over the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are anticipating next week\u2026to sit down and plan what we can do to celebrate the new year and the typhoon recovery,\u201d he said. \u201c[Today] seemed like a soft opening.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Manglona noted that the shelterees left the center about two to three weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026We still [have] quite a few things to do, but the [Aging Office] is looking pretty good now, so we decided to open up the center,\u201d Manglona said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe miss our man\u2019amko and we want them to come back.
