Hopwood Middle School near the Koblerville Elementary School.\u00a0(Erwin Encinares)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the moment, the Public School System is still on the fence whether to relocate the Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School to a new site or not but that is a move that is being considered\u2014among other options.<\/p>\n<p>Education Commissioner Glenn Mu\u00f1a confirmed Tuesday that PSS is looking at the possibility of relocating the school but has not made any decision yet on the subject since the system\u2019s priority is to focus on campuses that sustained \u201clesser damage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Super Typhoon Yutu tore through the CNMI in late October 2018, causing extensive damage to all of Hopwood\u2019s buildings in Afetna, nearly wiping out the school.<\/p>\n<p>In the first place, Federal Emergency Management Agency inspections must first be completed before PSS can \u201cdetermine what the next steps are,\u201d Mu\u00f1a said.<\/p>\n<p> \u201c\u2026We need to first complete FEMA assessments at Hopwood,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He wouldn\u2019t give a definitive answer, though, whether the campus would relocate or not.<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday morning, FEMA has yet to inspect the Hopwood campus, Mu\u00f1a noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are prioritizing [campuses] that sustained lesser damage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hopwood principal Dr. Rizalina Liwag told Saipan Tribune in a previous interview that all of its 10 buildings on campus sustained \u201cmajor damage,\u201d affecting about 70 rooms in all.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, Hopwood is holding classes in the morning at the Marianas High School campus, but Mu\u00f1a noted that they would soon be moving to a new campus near the Koblerville Elementary School once the 42 temporary classrooms are being built. <\/p>\n<p>According to Mu\u00f1a, subcontractors for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are working 24 hours to complete the temporary structures before February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are expecting to move the students of Hopwood to their new temporary campus\u2026in the first or second week of February [2019],\u201d he told the Board of Education\u2019s Fiscal, Personnel, and Administrative Committee during a meeting Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>He further reported that Liwag has already made the orders for the collateral equipment required and these are expected to arrive next month.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_291642\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-291642\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hopwood-pix-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hopwood-pix-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"size-full wp-image-291642\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-291642\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This file photo shows the Admiral Herbert G.
