{"id":291901,"date":"2019-01-16T06:00:35","date_gmt":"2019-01-15T20:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=291901"},"modified":"2019-01-16T06:00:35","modified_gmt":"2019-01-15T20:00:35","slug":"real-id-system-to-launch-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/real-id-system-to-launch-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Real ID system to launch this year"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_291903\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-291903\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Robert-A.-Guerrero-mug.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"674\" class=\"size-full wp-image-291903\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-291903\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guerrero<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Real ID System that aims to unify the systems of various government and local agencies in the CNMI is expected to launch this year. <\/p>\n<p>In interview with Department of Public Safety Commissioner Robert Guerrero, he said the Real ID System has been in the works for a while and is nearly ready to be fully implemented in a few months. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re ready to actually launch the issues of those IDs but full compliance is within the next three to four months,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Although the system is ready to be launched, Guerrero said that they would have to link systems with the American Motor Vehicle Association in order to have it fully operational nationwide. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt requires a link with the American Motor Vehicle Association, it\u2019s going to be nationwide\u2026\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Guerrero explained that the purpose for the IDs that will be issued from the Real ID System is to allow travel between any of the U.S. territories with the use of just one identification card. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know the Real ID System is going to link all of our systems to the Homeland Security system, the passport system, CBP, TSA, the hospital. It will comprise of everything so it\u2019s going to be a little bit harder to get a driver\u2019s license because all the systems are going to be linked to all those agencies\u2026 Once you get that, you can travel to any U.S. territory just using your ID,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Aside from the Real ID System, DPS aims to push forward with e-ticketing system soon, after issues are solved. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was an issue with the e-ticketing and my position was always if we\u2019re going to implement e-ticketing, it has to be across the board without patrol vehicles. it cannot be just traffic and print, it has to be across the board.
