The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. as of November 2018 has 58 contracts for various projects with an aggregate total amount of approximately $159.4 million.<\/p>\n
In his report about CUC\u2019s overall activity last November, CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho disclosed that 38 contracts are for active projects while the remaining 20 are in-processing as new contracts or as change orders to current contracts.<\/p>\n
Camacho\u2019s report was filed last Friday before the U.S. District Court for the NMI. <\/p>\n
U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge David O. Carter will hold a weeklong status conference about various CUC projects that will begin on Jan. 29, 2019.<\/p>\n
Carter informed the parties that he would like to learn on the status of the various activities and requirements relevant to federal court\u2019s Stipulated Orders 1 and 2 (SO1 and 2)<\/p>\n
SO 1 focuses on drinking water and wastewater and the restructuring of CUC\u2019s organization.<\/p>\n
SO 2 focuses on oil issues and also applies to oil spills and the remediation of the contaminated power plants.<\/p>\n
Camacho said among CUC\u2019s divisions, water-wastewater has the highest number of contracts\u201421 worth approximately $4.7 million. <\/p>\n
He said the power generation division has only 17 contracts, but the cumulative sum of these contracts are worth approximately $147.5 million, the highest amount among the divisions.<\/p>\n
Camacho said 13 contracts are funded by grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Insular Affairs, and the CNMI.<\/p>\n
He said CUC funded the remaining 45 contracts.<\/p>\n
Camacho said the amount of contracts funded by grants is 7 percent of the grant total amount.<\/p>\n
Last August, Camacho informed the federal court that last June, CUC monitored 54 project contracts with an aggregate amount of approximately $149.3 million.<\/p>\n
