{"id":29241,"date":"2014-03-06T13:49:37","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T05:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tribune.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=29241"},"modified":"2014-03-06T13:49:37","modified_gmt":"2014-03-06T05:49:37","slug":"spc-marks-65th-year-moving-new-caledonia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/spc-marks-65th-year-moving-new-caledonia\/","title":{"rendered":"SPC marks 65th year of moving to New Caledonia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NOUMEA, New Caledonia\u2014The Secretariat of the Pacific Community celebrated yesterday the 65th anniversary of the establishment of its headquarters in New Caledonia.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1947 under the Canberra Agreement, SPC first had its temporary headquarters in Mosman, Sydney in Australia before moving to Noumea to the former \u201cUS Headquarters \u2013 South Pacific Base Command\u201d used by the American military forces during World War II and nicknamed \u201cThe Pentagon.\u201d The SPC\u2019s current Headquarters at 95 promenade Roger Laroque in Noumea were inaugurated in October 1995.<\/p>\n<p>SPC, a veritable hub for international and regional cooperation in the Pacific, has formed a win-win partnership with the New Caledonia government that allows SPC to benefit from a favorable setting for its work to promote the development of Pacific island countries and territories. On its part, New Caledonia benefits from SPC\u2019s internationally recognized expertise in a wide range of areas such as fisheries, geosciences, public health, agriculture, statistics and transport.
