A nationwide literacy competition usually launched toward the end of the year was ham-pered as recovery efforts followed Super Typhoon Yutu, but according to the Public School System, results might be expected next month.<\/p>\n
Acting Education commissioner Jackie Quitugua noted in an interview Wednesday that alt-hough some challenges continue to plague PSS and their students, the Achieve3000 read-ing competition is still ongoing and that results of the competition may be expected within the next month.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have encountered some challenges with power, but options [and extensions] were giv-en\u2026[for] this competition,\u201d Quitugua said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have yet to see what these results look like and hopefully by next month [we] would be able to see how [the competition] is coming along,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n
The Achieve3000 hosts literacy competitions for all levels of students. Specifically, they host competitions pertaining to reading and writing, and are usually done online.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the elementary level, we have decided to [use] paper and pencil\u2014the traditional way of handling instruction,\u201d she said, noting that this was one of the options provided to her for the CNMI\u2019s participation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the secondary level, we are encouraging the digital tools to be used since our children still access their phones and they can [participate in the competition] anytime and any-where,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
Both levels have been provided additional time extensions as what was recommended in respect to students who continue to struggle with the lack of power.<\/p>\n
Achieve3000 seeks to promote literacy through providing comprehensive English and Spanish language support for struggling readers and is based in Lakewood, New Jersey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
