Ralph DLG Torres selected Tinian\u2019s Philip Mendiola-Long to fill the final seat of the 16th BOE after former Tinian representative Florine Hofschneider decided not to seek reelection during the 2018 elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appointed Mendiola-Long [to the BOE as Tinian representative],\u201d he said in an interview. Torres further noted that Mendiola-Long\u2019s appointment did not need the blessing of the Senate, citing consultations from both Attorney General Edward Manibusan and the BOE.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Tribune learned yesterday that Mendiola-Long\u2019s swearing-in ceremony would be conducted tomorrow at the BOE conference of building 1241 on Capitol Hill. The 16th BOE chairwoman is currently Janice Tenorio.<\/p>\n<p>Hofschneider told Saipan Tribune in a previous interview that she decided not to seek reelection for the 16th BOE due to personal reasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was hoping that other parents will come in and throw their names in the ring because they have children in schools and it is very important for them to participate, but it didn\u2019t happen,\u201d she previously told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy reason [for not seeking re-election] is personal.
