Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Gary P. Camacho disclosed that since Super Typhoon Yutu, they have energized or provided power close to 90 percent of the overall customers on Saipan.<\/p>\n
In an interview last Friday, Camacho said the materials needed in the restoration program are really moving forward quickly on Saipan.<\/p>\n
Camacho said on Tinian, about 65 percent of their customers have already power and that materials are also arriving there now.<\/p>\n
He said CUC has a \u201cwonderful working relationship\u201d with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other federal agencies, which have been supporting and providing the need in materials, equipment, and labor.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis type of support that we need to be able to be successful, the consumers, and the economy and the government benefit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Camacho said they anticipate to complete the power restoration aspect of the program in the latter part of February for both Saipan and Tinian.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s from my understanding from the contractor and the CUC power manager. And so, we are doing well in that regard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The executive director said materials have always been an issue, but that 271 transformers came early part of last week.<\/p>\n
He said another 280 transformers are coming later this week along with lots of hardware and conductors.<\/p>\n
He said there are a few more things needed in the final stage and that they are dealing with them.<\/p>\n
Camacho said they are putting a lot of street lights as they can. \u201cStreet lights need transformers. So as transformers coming you see street lights,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Camacho said they are making serious efforts to light up areas on the main primary roads and in villages.<\/p>\n
