{"id":293288,"date":"2019-02-06T06:00:51","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T20:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=293288"},"modified":"2019-02-06T06:00:51","modified_gmt":"2019-02-05T20:00:51","slug":"cec-wants-polling-sites-for-special-poll-back-at-garapan-oleai-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cec-wants-polling-sites-for-special-poll-back-at-garapan-oleai-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"CEC wants polling sites for special  poll back at Garapan, Oleai schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Election Commission wants to hold the March 23 special election at the Garapan and Oleai elementary schools\u2014the traditional polling places for Precinct 3 voters.<\/p>\n<p>Due to typhoon damage at the Garapan and Oleai schools, the polling sites for Precinct 3 voters last November were moved to Garapan Central Park and at the Marianas Visitors Authority office in Oleai\/San Jose.<\/p>\n<p>CEC executive director Julita Villagomez said yesterday that they had already asked the Public School System to allow them to use the cafeterias of the Garapan and Oleai schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to go back to the old system,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>They were told that the Oleai school is still renovating its cafeteria. Villagomez said they asked for a classroom instead.<\/p>\n<p>Villagomez said they are still awaiting reply from Education Commissioner Glenn Mu\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>As of last Jan. 28, there were 3,361 registered voters for Precinct 3. <\/p>\n<p>CEC closed the registration for Precinct 3 last Jan. 23.<\/p>\n<p>The special election became necessary with the demise of Rep. Francisco D.
