{"id":293467,"date":"2019-02-08T06:00:35","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T20:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=293467"},"modified":"2019-02-08T06:00:35","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T20:00:35","slug":"customs-to-introduce-new-forms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/customs-to-introduce-new-forms\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs to introduce new forms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CNMI Division of Customs is looking to introduce new customs declaration forms\u2014one that is smaller and with fewer questions.<\/p>\n<p>NMI Customs chief Jose Mafnas said they are working with the Marianas Visitors Authority to change the forms.<\/p>\n<p>The forms are being printed by MVA, according to deputy managing director Judy Torres, of which they also keep an inventory at their office in San Jose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe plan to make it smaller and we will also be working with the [CNMI Office of the Attorney General] to check the language and the laws that are cited [in the forms],\u201d said Mafnas.<\/p>\n<p>Mafnas said the new forms would be smaller and easier for residents and visitors to fill it out. It has been observed that some people were having a hard time answering all the questions in the old customs forms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will consult MVA to see if they can lessen or remove some of the questions. We can make it small and concise,\u201d said Mafnas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to do it [introduce the forms] this year. MVA will give us the time for them to get whatever they have on stock and have them printed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Customs will give the airlines their copies of the new forms once everything is finalized, with the AG clearing the language and once the MVA finishes printing them.<\/p>\n<p>Gov.
