A variety of cultural performances delighted visitors and residents alike at the Lunar New Year Party in the Marianas last Feb. 5, 2019, at the Paseo de Marianas pedestrian mall in Garapan.<\/p>\n

The evening kicked off at 6pm with a traditional lion dance and classical dancing by the Chinese Association of Saipan. The opening act was followed by a taekwondo demonstration by the Korean Community of Saipan at 6:30pm, Marianas High School POLKSAI Chamorro Club at 7:30pm, Laulau Homebrew at 8pm, modern dance troupe Studio 29:11 at 8:30pm, and local musician James Selepeo at 9:15pm.<\/p>\n

The event also included the sale of traditional Chinese and Korean new year dishes, as well other cuisine including barbecued seafood such as lobsters, scallops, and shrimp. Participating food vendors were Kinpachi Restaurant, Furusato Restaurant, Ina\u2019s Kitchen, Music Bank Restaurant, Canton Restaurant, and Fong\u2019s Bakery\/Catering. Festival goers also had the opportunity to try their hand at Chinese calligraphy.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of the Marianas Visitors Authority, we would like to wish all a very Happy Lunar New Year,\u201d said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. \u201cWe hope for an auspicious new year for both the Marianas and our valued visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pedestrian mall was decorated with traditional Korea and Chinese lamps. The event was co-organized by the Chinese Association, the Korean Community of Saipan, and the MVA.<\/p>\n
