{"id":293972,"date":"2019-02-18T06:06:18","date_gmt":"2019-02-17T20:06:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=293972"},"modified":"2019-02-18T06:06:18","modified_gmt":"2019-02-17T20:06:18","slug":"nws-warns-of-risk-of-rip-currents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nws-warns-of-risk-of-rip-currents\/","title":{"rendered":"NWS warns of risk of rip currents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Weather Service has issued a warning of a high risk of rip currents in the Marianas through Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the information received from the NWS in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, a trade-wind swell will continue to produce a high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs all this week. <\/p>\n<p>Along east facing reefs, surf of 7 to 10 feet will maintain a high risk of rip currents all this week. Depending on the development of a tropical disturbance near Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia, the high risk of rip currents may spread to south facing reefs also by the weekend. <\/p>\n<p>The public is advised to avoid venturing near reefs and beaches, especially those facing east. If you become caught in a rip current, remain calm, swim parallel to shore, then back toward the beach when possible.
