{"id":294363,"date":"2019-02-22T06:02:50","date_gmt":"2019-02-21T20:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=294363"},"modified":"2019-02-22T06:02:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T20:02:50","slug":"294363","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/294363\/","title":{"rendered":"6 Skymark charters on March 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japanese low-cost carrier Skymark Airlines Inc. will launch six direct charter flights from Tokyo to Saipan on March 22, a development that the Marianas Visitors Authority described as \u201cexciting\u201d for the CNMI as it will be the start of the increase in tourist arrivals from Japan.<\/p>\n<p>MVA managing director Christopher Concepcion disclosed yesterday that Skymark will also launch additional flights in April and May for Japanese Golden Week.<\/p>\n<p>Concepcion said Skymark is expected to launch their regular scheduled flights in July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very excited about the resumption of flights from Japan to Saipan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The MVA managing director said they expect a slight increase in arrivals from Japan after these initial flights.<\/p>\n<p>When daily flights launch in July, Concepcion said, they expect a significant increase in arrivals from Japan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a long, drawn out back-and-forth discussion with Skymark and we\u2019re finally almost here. We\u2019re very glad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Skymark donated 3 million Japanese yen or about $30,000 to MVA for the CNMI\u2019s recovery efforts from Super Typhoon Yutu\u2019s devastation. <\/p>\n<p>The CNMI government and Skymark had signed a co-promotional agreement that would re-open direct flights between Japan and Saipan. <\/p>\n<p>Skymark is Japan\u2019s third largest carrier and the first low-cost carrier in Japan.
