Staff of the Commonwealth Councils of Arts and Culture, a division of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, took down over the weekend some of the electronic components for the weekly Thursday Street Market in preparation for Super Typhoon Wutip.<\/p>\n
According to CCAC executive director Parker Yobei, they disassembled the electricals for the weekly Thursday Street Market at the Garapan Fishing Base in case Super Typhoon Wutip changed course.<\/p>\n
The typhoon was expected to pass south of Guam, which it did.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026We have already started installing the panel boxes and the weatherheads but because of [then-Tropical Storm Wutip], [the council] had to take it down,\u201d he told Saipan Tribune. \u201cI don\u2019t want to chance it with the weather.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cFor these guys to be working in that kind of weather is not safe,\u201d he added, referring to the staff of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.<\/p>\n
In a previous interview, Yobei noted that the weekly Thursday Street Market may be re-opened in as early as three weeks. What remains is reconnecting back to Saipan\u2019s power grid, which can only be done through CUC.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have communicated with CUC to hook us back up to the [power] grid and it wasn\u2019t a problem.
