{"id":294610,"date":"2019-02-27T06:06:16","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T20:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=294610"},"modified":"2019-02-27T06:06:16","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T20:06:16","slug":"fire-destroys-san-antonio-barracks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/fire-destroys-san-antonio-barracks\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire destroys San Antonio barracks"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_294613\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-294613\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Fire-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Fire-pix.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-294613\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-294613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A fire engulfs a workers\u2019 barracks behind a former garment factory in San Antonio yesterday<br \/>(KIMBERLY BAUTISTA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A fire engulfed a workers\u2019 barracks located behind the former UIC garment factory in San Antonio yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Bobbie Taisacan said that there were no reports of injuries and the fire was controlled at around 5:10pm yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>She said the barracks was home to at least 10 workers and the fire remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Taisacan said the fire completely destroyed the barracks, including all the belongings of the people who live there. <\/p>\n<p>According to individuals at the scene, the fire was seen and reported before 4pm and they were not sure what or who started the fire. <\/p>\n<p>At the scene, Saipan Tribune saw that a vehicle had also caught fire. <\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the people living in the area were able to evacuate before the flames got worse. <\/p>\n<p>Taisacan said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and further information will follow.  <\/p>\n<p>The semi-concrete barracks is located right behind the former UIC garment factory and the old Sablan Construction Warehouse that was also completely destroyed in a fire last year. <\/p>\n<p>According to a previous Saipan Tribune article, the old Sablan Construction Warehouse was one of three structures that were engulfed in flames and left completely destroyed in June 2018. <\/p>\n<p>The fire spread to an adjacent warehouse, an abandoned United International Corp. building that also sustained total damage.<\/p>\n<p>When firefighters arrived at the scene, the abandoned Sablan warehouse was already engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n<p>The blaze was reportedly traveling south toward the UIC warehouse but firefighters suppressed the blaze and prevented it from moving toward other warehouses in the UIC compound.<\/p>\n<p>The homes of at least four people were destroyed in that fire. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fire engulfed a workers\u2019 barracks located behind the former UIC garment factory in San&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":24,"featured_media":294613,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900],"tags":[135],"class_list":["post-294610","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","tag-san-antonio"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294610","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/24"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=294610"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294610\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/294613"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=294610"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=294610"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=294610"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
