{"id":294666,"date":"2019-02-28T06:06:21","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T20:06:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=294666"},"modified":"2019-02-28T06:06:21","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T20:06:21","slug":"saipan-mayors-office-back-to-beautifying-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/saipan-mayors-office-back-to-beautifying-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office back to beautifying island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office yesterday noted that they are officially reverting to their original priorities for Saipan, which is to make the island as presentable as possible for its residents and tourists.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang yesterday told Saipan Tribune that they have reverted to prioritizing the beautification of the island since the devastation of Super Typhoon Yutu in late October 2018 forced the office to prioritize undertaking cleanup efforts.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe are back to our regular operation\u2014we are doing village re-beautification now,\u201d Apatang said, adding that teams have started in Koblerville, San Antonio, Chalan Kanoa, and Chalan Piao.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working our way toward the north,\u201d he said, specifically noting the Dandan area, San Vicente area, Kagman area, and the Capitol Hill area. \u201cWe are cleaning the villages along the roads and raking a lot of the trash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apatang further noted that he had teams going around and doing bush-cut work around the villages.<\/p>\n<p>Even as they work toward the beautification of the island, the mayor noted that previous beautification projects were affected by the devastation of Super Typhoon Yutu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was more debris than we had ever seen,\u201d Apatang recalled. \u201cPeople were throwing out trash and even though it isn\u2019t typhoon-related, they just [dump] it in one place, that\u2019s why there are trash flying around and we are now cleaning those up again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office field operations director Joann Aquino further noted that the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality would be issuing a statement soon regarding their enforcement of the 1989 Anti-Littering Act.<\/p>\n<p>According to Aquino, BECQ would go far as to considering fines dependent on the severity of the violation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office yesterday noted that they are officially reverting to their original priorities&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900],"tags":[1507],"class_list":["post-294666","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-featured","tag-saipan-mayor"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294666","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/22"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=294666"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294666\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=294666"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=294666"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=294666"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
