{"id":294854,"date":"2019-03-04T06:00:58","date_gmt":"2019-03-03T20:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=294854"},"modified":"2019-03-04T06:00:58","modified_gmt":"2019-03-03T20:00:58","slug":"about-800-availed-of-owwa-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/about-800-availed-of-owwa-services\/","title":{"rendered":"About 800 availed of OWWA services"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_294855\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-294855\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/OWWA-pix-300x225.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-294855\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The first day of the first consular outreach program of the Philippine Consular General in Agana, Guam at the Kristo Rai Parish Social Hall served 132 passport renewal applications for the day.\u00a0(Erwin Encinares)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>About 800 Filipino citizens on Saipan were served yesterday at the Kristo Rai Parish Social Hall during the year\u2019s first consular outreach of the Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam.<\/p>\n<p>The first day of the outreach program yesterday yielded about 800 Filipinos either renewing or enrolling their membership for the Philippine Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were overwhelmed,\u201d said OWWA board secretariat head Evelyn Llanes, who is representing OWWA throughout the three-day consular outreach. \u201cWe are expecting similar numbers in the next two days of the outreach program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Llanes, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs predicted that about only 500 Filipino citizens would avail of OWWA services over the duration of her three-day visit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe checked the history of the last time OWWA sent a representative, and it totaled to about 2,000 enrollees and renewals for the year,\u201d she said, noting that the last time OWWA sent a representative to Saipan was back in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>According to Philippine Consul to Guam Mark Hamoy, they were able to reach their target of 140 passport renewal processing slots for the day, minus the few no-shows who registered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to process 132 passport applications, one lost ePassport replacements, five extensions of validity, two legal documents notarial services, one report of birth, one report of marriage, and three dual citizenship petitions filed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, Hamoy noted that the outreach program yielded 145 transactions for the first day.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that similar numbers may be expected in the remaining two days of the consular outreach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe passport renewals are more predictable because we have pre-assigned [schedules],\u201d he said. \u201cSince we are supposed to have a full slate per day, we are expecting 280 more [passport renewal] applicants within [today] and [tomorrow], he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing pretty well for what we came here to do,\u201d he said, given that it was the first consular outreach in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About 800 Filipino citizens on Saipan were served yesterday at the Kristo Rai Parish Social&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":294855,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[1328],"class_list":["post-294854","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-owwa"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294854","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/22"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=294854"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294854\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/294855"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=294854"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=294854"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=294854"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
