The second quarter of the fiscal year ends on March 31, 2019.

The 428 junk cars collected also covers the time of Super Typhoon Yutu’s immediate recovery, when the Saipan Mayor’s Office reverted to typhoon debris collection operations.

As of yesterday, Aquino noted that majority of the junk cars had been cleared for disposal, unless tagged by the Commonwealth Zoning Board. According to her records, there are two junk cars awaiting pick up in Dandan, four in Finasisu, and two in Garapan, to name a few.

According to Aquino, most of the new junk car requests are from Kagman.

“We still have quite a few junk cars pending in Kagman. We are going to get to it. At the rate we are going, we are doing it quickly,” she said, adding that they are prioritizing the backlog of requests from before Super Typhoon Yutu, which struck the CNMI late October 2018.

“As a result of the typhoon we had to revert to typhoon debris collection operations. Now that we are done with that, junk car collection is now one of our priorities,” she added.

Aquino also said that putting trash inside junk car delays the whole operation since the trash isn’t accepted at the disposal site in Lower Base.

“When folks want their cars removed, we really highly recommend removing the trash in the junk car because the disposal site in Lower Base won’t accept the vehicles,” she said, adding that, if possible, tires should also be removed since it is not included in the recycling of the car.

“It takes time off of going on to the next car,” she said, adding that the mayor’s office skips vehicles with trash in it.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office has collected over 400 junk cars and is expecting to collect…

[4

post-295563","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
