The Japanese consul to Saipan yesterday afternoon abruptly announced his retirement and is leaving for Japan today.<\/p>\n

After serving the CNMI as a connection to the Japanese government for nearly two years, Kinji Shinoda, 63, officially announced his retirement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that Japan and the CNMI will promote the already existing excellent friendship further\u2026in [the] future. I wish you all the best,\u201d he said in a brief email to Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n

Shinoda noted that he would be leaving for Japan today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be leaving Saipan [today] before my retirement of the [Japanese] Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 31, 2019,\u201d he wrote, adding a message expressing his gratitude towards those he had worked with in the past on Saipan.<\/p>\n

Kinji Shinoda<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, in an interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday, noted that Shinoda was a great help in promoting the islands to Japan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank him for working with us here in the CNMI. He made a lot of recommendations here for the Japanese people,\u201d he said, adding that Shinoda was constantly in touch with the CNMI Japanese Association as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish him the best of luck for his retirement,\u201d the Saipan mayor continued.<\/p>\n

Shinoda did not mention in his email of a replacement consul for the CNMI.<\/p>\n

Projects Shinoda promoted in the CNMI included teaching opportunities in Japan, the introduction of unique sake to the CNMI, the establishment of the CNMI Japanese Descent Association, and many more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
