{"id":296898,"date":"2019-04-04T06:04:25","date_gmt":"2019-04-03T20:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=296898"},"modified":"2019-04-04T06:04:25","modified_gmt":"2019-04-03T20:04:25","slug":"pss-accreditation-renewed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/pss-accreditation-renewed\/","title":{"rendered":"PSS accreditation renewed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CNMI Public School System\u2019s national accreditation has been reaffirmed for another five years, according to Education Commissioner Glenn Mu\u00f1a last week.<\/p>\n<p>Mu\u00f1a affirmed that AdvancED reaffirmed PSS\u2019 accreditation for an additional five years during a Board of Education meeting on Capital Hill last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing an accredited institution is something that is honorable because it val-idates the work that we do and that we meet the standards set by AdvancED,\u201d he said in a later interview with Saipan Tribune. \u201c\u2026They visited our classrooms and met our stakeholders, students, parents, and principals asking about what is hap-pening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the benefits of being an accredited educational institution is that PSS is in good standing with grantors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are meeting the services and standards that we are expected to pro-vide,\u201d said Mu\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>Information about the re-accreditation, according to Mu\u00f1a\u2019s report, was re-ceived last March 18, 2019. The new term would expire on June 30, 2024, with no midterm review.<\/p>\n<p>A 10-member team from AdvancED visited PSS schools in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[This accreditation] shows that we are continuing our work to-ward\u2026providing the best quality services [for our students],\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>AdvancED sent a 10-member team to the CNMI for a one-week visit in mid-October 2018. They collected data by interviewing over 500 individuals through-out Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. The team was led by lead evaluator for AdvancED Agnes Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Smith had noted several infrastructure upgrades since their previous visit to the CNMI in 2013.
