(MVA)

The underwater wonders of the Marianas are coming to the attention of more potential visitors in China, thanks to recent social media coverage featuring free dive recorder holder Aolin Wang.

Wang is the first person to free dive over 100 meters and is also China’s national record holder of the free diving competition Constant Weight with Fins at 110 meters. Videos and photos of his visit to the Marianas were released this month on Sina Weibo, China’s largest social media platform.

“Aolin is not only a great diver but also a professional underwater photographer, so its great to have him playing a role in opening up to The Marianas among other ocean enthusiasts,” said Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “Free diving is becoming increasingly popular among Chinese adventure-seekers looking for a new thrill. The creative outcome of this group will be used for promoting diving in the Marianas. We believe more and more authentic divers will choose to explore the Marianas in coming years. We’ve begun discussion with Aolin on a possible promotional event highlighting the Marianas as the home of the world-famous Marianas Trench. Stay tuned for future details.”

In cooperation with Century Tours, the MVA hosted Wang and a film crew on a media familiarization tour filming Wang and a “mermaid” at some of Saipan’s iconic diving and snorkeling sites, including Grotto, Laulau Beach, Forbidden Island, and others. In addition to diving, Wang filmed the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan cultural dinner show and a self-driving tour around island.

The films made will be used by the MVA to further promote the Marianas via other media and platforms. (MVA)

A shipwreck near Managaha is one of the underwater sites featured in new video filmed in January 2019 by free dive recorder holder and underwater photographer Aolin Wang.
