{"id":297648,"date":"2019-04-16T06:01:35","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T20:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=297648"},"modified":"2019-04-16T06:01:35","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T20:01:35","slug":"april-is-library-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/april-is-library-month\/","title":{"rendered":"April is Library Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Public School System has declared April as Library Month.<\/p>\n<p>Surrounded by public school librarians from several schools, the Board of Education led by vice chair Herman Atalig signed the proclamation last Friday morning at the Kanoa Resort Latte Room, just before announcing the 2019 Librarian of the Year awardee.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech, Education Commissioner Glenn Mu\u00f1a noted that libraries are essential to a community. He described librarians as \u201cthe ultimate search engine of the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that libraries are loaded with not just information but also with projects pertaining to several improvements such as collection additions, more library programs, and an overall environment for learning.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_297649\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-297649\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Library-Month-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Library-Month-pix-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-297649\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-297649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Board of Education vice chair Herman Atalig signs the Library Month proclamation last Friday morning at the Kanoa Resort Latte Room.<br \/>(ERWIN ENCINARES)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re better than Google,\u201d he added. \u201c\u2026You guys are very resourceful despite the limited resources we have on island. You bring those resources to our children, and we thank you all for your hard work.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>BOE vice chair Herman Atalig also expressed gratitude to librarians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you all for your dedication and commitment [in putting our] students first. Remember that you\u2026are basically the information folks for our students in PSS,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLibraries should be fun and I think it is fun,\u201d he said, adding that librarians hardly get the spotlight for their efforts. \u201cToday, we salute you and honor you, and you are part of the equation of our student\u2019s achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Librarians from several PSS schools attended the proclamation signing, including representatives from Kagman Elementary School, William S.
