The Commonwealth Cancer Association has seen a 23-percent increase in the number of its clients in a span of just a year.<\/p>\n
During the Marianas March Against Cancer Week proclamation signing yesterday at the Joeten Motors Kia showroom, CCA reported that they saw a 23-percent increase in the number of clients between 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n
In the CNMI, the top five diagnosed cancers based on the CNMI Cancer Registry are gynecological cancers, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, head and neck cancers, and urological cancers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe risk of developing most types of cancer can be reduced by changes in a person\u2019s lifestyle. Global cancer research indicates that nearly 50 percent of common cancers are preventable,\u201d the proclamation states. <\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to the American Institute for Cancer Research, keeping weight at a healthy level, eating a healthy diet, and being physically active can greatly reduce cancer risk,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
The annual MMAC celebrates cancer survivors, supports caregivers, remembers lost loved ones, and empowers the CNMI community to fight back against cancer.<\/p>\n
According to MMAC committee member Bobby Cruz, proceeds collected from the MMAC would support the CCA\u2019s mission to \u201cadvocate for a cancer-free CNMI\u201d through early detection, public education, awareness about cancer prevention, cancer screenings, and to \u201cprovide hope and support for cancer patients, survivors, and their families through community partnerships and programs.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 17th MMAC is set to start to happen on May 3, 2019, from 5:30pm to 5:30am on May 4, 2019.<\/p>\n
