Ten of the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office staff completed a 16-hour construction safety course on March 4 to 5.
\nThe two-day course is intended for managers, supervisors, and safety officers with safety and health responsibilities and employee safety and health awareness on a construction project or job site. It is an overview of the Army Corps of Engineers Construction Safety Regulations and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Construction Standard.<\/p>\n

It is designed to assist construction companies and national and local governments ensure that employees have a safe place to work, free from safety and health hazards that can cause injury, illness and death at a construction job site.<\/p>\n

The objective of the course was for the staff to understand construction safety program management, general site conditions, personal protective equipment, electrical safety, hand and power tool safety, material handling, storage and disposal.<\/p>\n

To complete the course the staff had to pass the final exam with a score of 70. Upon completion of the course, the 10 employees were presented certificates of completion and an Occupational Safety and Health Administration wallet card.<\/p>\n

The two-day course was led by the Professional Training technology, Inc. and cost $225 per person.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the mayor\u2019s office said it is proactive in furthering their staff\u2019s training. \u201cThis is an important initiative that the mayor had created for the staff to further their knowledge and experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
