{"id":298767,"date":"2019-05-03T06:00:45","date_gmt":"2019-05-02T20:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=298767"},"modified":"2019-05-03T06:00:45","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T20:00:45","slug":"public-servants-recognized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/public-servants-recognized\/","title":{"rendered":"Public servants recognized"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the CNMI public service sector were recognized last Tuesday afternoon at the Office of the Governor\u2019s conference room on Capital Hill with the signing of a proclamation designating the week of May 5-11, 2019, as Public Service Recognition Week.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said the occasion honors the \u201cunsung heroes\u201d who keep the Commonwealth government chugging along.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublic employees take not only jobs, but oaths to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities,\u201d the proclamation noted.<\/p>\n<p>Public servants include military reserve personnel, police officers, firefighters, corrections officers, customs and conservation officers, doctors, nurses, health care professionals and others who risk their lives for others on a daily basis, along with teachers, social workers, administrators, computer technicians, laborers, and may more occupations.<\/p>\n<p>Office of Personnel Management director Isidro K. Seman noted that while tourism drives the CNMI economy, the efforts of the public service workforce should not be forgotten. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8230;Tourism is the driving force [of the CNMI], but without the workforce, that driving force is nothing,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are here to celebrate each and every [public servant]. Today is your day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Every occupation out there is needed\u2026whether you are a gardener, carpenter, teacher, nurse, or elected official,\u201d said Torres in a short speech before congratulating government employees.<\/p>\n<p>Torres noted that Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios would be making the rounds to greet government employees in each department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to celebrating public service recognition, and I appreciate all the hard work that [the public servants] have been doing,\u201d said Saipan Mayor David M.
