{"id":299060,"date":"2019-05-08T06:06:02","date_gmt":"2019-05-07T20:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=299060"},"modified":"2019-05-08T06:06:02","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T20:06:02","slug":"brilliant-star-shines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/brilliant-star-shines\/","title":{"rendered":"Brilliant Star shines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/nmapix-1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Brilliant Star School clinched the overall title in the girls elementary division of the 2019 Public School System\/McDonald\u2019s All Schools Track and Field Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Brilliant Star scored 153 points to beat perennial winner Koblerville Elementary School (125), Saipan International School (125), Tinian Elementary School (87), and Agape Christian School. Points were awarded to schools based on how their students finished in the U7, U9, and U11 age groups\u2019 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m races, long jump, and softball throw events held last Friday and Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.<\/p>\n<p>A sweep of the first place honors in the running events in the U11 division was the deciding factor in Brilliant Star\u2019s overall title conquest in the girls elementary division.<\/p>\n<p>Savita Sikkel handed Brilliant Star three gold medals after prevailing in the 100, 400m, and 800m runs, while Fiona Rogan won two golds with her victory in the 60m and 1,500m races. Irin Chung completed Brilliant Star\u2019s domination in the running events after getting the gold in the 200m race.<\/p>\n<p>Chung also finished third in the 60m and 400m, while Sikkel was the runner-up in the 1,500m, and Regan came in at second in the long jump, which Koblerville\u2019s Elizabeth Chipwelong ruled.<\/p>\n<p>In the softball throw, SIS\u2019 Phoenix Gross took the gold medal, while Agape\u2019s Maru Fu and Saipan Community School\u2019s Katrina Wu bagged the silver and bronze, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In the girls U9 competition, Brilliant Star got a gold from Sari Barman, who toipped the 800m run. William S. Reyes\u2019 Erica Narruhn earned the silver, while Agape\u2019s Angeline Quan brought home the bronze.<\/p>\n<p>In other results in the U9 division, Tinian\u2019s Ysabelle Lenteja notched the gold in the 60m run, while Koblerville\u2019s Elizha Maratita and Kagman\u2019s Aaliyah Cosmes also made it to the podium. Lenteja bagged three more gold medals after winning the 100m and 200m races and the softball throw.<\/p>\n<p>In the 400m run, the gold medal went to Koblerville\u2019s Jellydia Hong, while Barman and Tinian\u2019s Karrena Shrestha were awarded the silver and bronze, respectively. In the 1,500m run, Quan edged out two WSR runners\u2014Yilu Wang and Jewell Saluta\u2014for the gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>In the long jump, Kagman got a gold medal off Paige Bianco\u2019s first place finish, while Hong settled for the silver, and Barman pocketed the bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Top 5 overall finishers in the boys elementary division along with the results in the boys U9 and U11 events will be reported in Saipan Tribune\u2019s Thursday edition.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-299060 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-medium'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/brilliant-star-shines\/nmapasapix1\/'>nmapasapix1<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-299064'>\n\t\t\t\tBrilliant Star School\u2019s Savita Sikkle pushes herself, as she heads to the finish line of the 4x100m relay run during the 2019 Public School System\/McDonald\u2019s All Schools Track and Field Championships last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
