Apatang and 2019 Liberation Day committee chair Joe Ayuyu Jr. (Erwin Encinares)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The public had its first glimpse last Wednesday afternoon at the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office of the seven candidates who would be vying for the 2019 Liberation Day Queen tiara.<\/p>\n<p>The seven candidates are Pernalyn Camacho, Lea Salalila, Rhe\u2019ann Tudela, Angel Deleon Guerrero, Kiara Nekaifes, Nadine Kapileo, and Regiene Babauta.<\/p>\n<p>The seven were joined by their parents Wednesday at the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office for the signing of their contracts to join the pageant as well as for the pinning of sashes, indicating that they are the pageant\u2019s official candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s Liberation Day Queen. Brinae Jessilyn M. Cruz, noted that she would be supporting the candidates in their journey toward the 2019 Liberation Day Queen crowning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can dig deeper as to how we can fundraise and all that when we have our girl\u2019s night. What I can say is that I know all of you guys are hardworking and dedicated, which is why you all joined,\u201d Cruz said in a brief speech. \u201cThank you for joining and I extend my deepest gratitude to your parents as well. I know this would be a long journey, but it\u2019s going to be worth it. You are going to have so much fun with it and it would be good exposure for yourself.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Liberation Day committee chair, Joe Ayuyu Jr., bid good luck to all the pageant candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to see all of you wearing the crown, like Brinae,\u201d he said. \u201cSome of you would be coming into this pageant shy and not so talkative, but what I can say is that you guys are [braver] than I am because, at your age\u2026I wasn\u2019t involved with doing things like this. You are definitely a step ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said in an interview that this pageant would be a first step out of the candidayes\u2019 comfort zones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis would be a good experience for them,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is good experience for the girls to go out and meet the challenges of the community because that is how it is in the real world.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Liberation Queen pageant is a fundraiser for the Liberation Day festivities on July 4.
