The FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup brings together the best and the brightest in France, as 24 teams will showcase their exceptional football skills in their quest for the coveted World Cup trophy and the bragging rights that goes with it.<\/p>\n

The competition will run from June 7 to July 7 across nine cities in France with the United States Women\u2019s National Team facing a tough task of defending the title, as this year\u2019s World Cup is billed as the most competitive yet.<\/p>\n

Out to give the United States a run for its money are host France and Olympic champion Germany. Count England, reigning European champion, the Netherlands, oddsmaker bet Spain, and Asia\u2019s top contenders, Japan and Australia, too on the list of countries that could be threats to the Americans\u2019 bid for back-to-back crowns and fourth overall.<\/p>\n

A total of 52 matches will be played in this year\u2019s event with the last team left standing getting the prize money that\u2019s double than the $2 million the United States got in 2015.<\/p>\n

On top of the champion\u2019s purse, the winner will get to take home the new World Cup trophy, a hand-made piece with its new cup based cut out from green Serpentino marble and the spiral and the football in pure silver covered with 23-carat gold and white gold. The trophy, which renowned designer William Sawaya said \u201cstarts with a simple movement at the bottom then rises upwards in a dancing crescendo of elegance, just like the level of interest that women\u2019s football is awakening in the world,\u201d is valued at $30,000.<\/p>\n

France will duel South Korea in the first match on June 7 in Paris, while the United States will start its title defense against Thailand on June 11 in Reims.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
