The U.S. Department of the Interior awarded the CNMI last Friday $8.67 million in fiscal year 2019 Capital Improvement Project funding.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis award is just another product of our work for the benefit of the Mariana,\u201d said Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres in a statement Friday.<\/p>\n
He thanked DOI and Office of Insular Affairs for funding CNMI priorities. This was done, he said, \u201cby sharing our critical needs, which include funding for our local cost share of [Federal Emergency Management Agency] projects that have helped speed up our recovery and other critical infrastructure initiatives,\u201d Torres said.<\/p>\n
The CIP funding will be allocated for the following projects:<\/p>\n
– $431,604 for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. toward the Granular Activated Carbon Treatment System<\/p>\n
– $5,143,896 for the local cost share of FEMA projects on Saipan<\/p>\n
– $890,975 for the local cost share of FEMA projects on Tinian<\/p>\n
– $890,975 for the local cost share of FEMA projects on Rota<\/p>\n
– $500,000 for the local cost share of FEMA\u2019s Super Typhoon Yutu Hazard Mitigation projects<\/p>\n
– $706,000 for the continuation of the CIP program administration<\/p>\n
– $101,550 for the maintenance of infrastructure projects in the CNMI<\/p>\n
Additionally, the CNMI received $400,000 for the Rota Department of Public Safety building renovations, as redirected from the 2016 Rota Landfill project.
