I thought that it was put to sleep, never to be awakened again. The article on Friday’s edition just didn’t sit right with me. I read the article about three times and I didn’t read anywhere any explanation as to why to have the casino bill out. To those HR or lawmaker who wants to governor to pass the bill, what are your reasons? I would like to know why you’re pushing the bill. Do you have an economic impact report that can be presented to the people of Saipan to explain why they should vote yes to this bill? So far that I have read is that you want the governor to sign it already. When push comes to shove, the people of Saipan will have their say.

I have been doing my own research on the pros and cons of casino gaming in communities. Some communities thrive, while others don’t. Some businesses will stay afloat, while others will either go bankrupt or close their business because of the casino taking the costumers. What would you do if the locals don’t want to work in the casinos? What would a business do? Hire outside help? Where does that help the community? It will still leave others in poverty. It may not be that a person doesn’t want to work, but maybe that person or people don’t what to be associated with the gambling community. Gambling is addictive when not carefully monitored. I’ve bookmarked a lot of websites. So if you want to sit down with me and talk about my findings, just let me know. I will be waiting and waiting.

Will Saipan be any different?? I would like to see what you have projected that you want this bill to succeed? In order to sway the people, don’t leave them out. Did some of you forget who got you that chair that you sit on? You didn’t get it by yourself. You got the people’s trust, so don’t blow it. Let the people decide and if it goes through, then you’re lucky. But if it goes south, take your punches as you get it and let this bill sleep in peace.

Thumbs up to those who said to put the bill out to the people. That means you put your trust in the people who put you there, like they did for your. Thumbs up again.

Judith Castro
As Matuis, Saipan

would like to know why the Legislature is pushing the casino bill again.
