(Erwin Encinares)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 15-person CNMI team that will compete in the National Speech and Debate Association\u2019s tournament in Dallas, Texas, is ready.<\/p>\n<p>Both Public School System schools and private schools students from Dandan Middle School, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, Hopwood Middle School, Grace Christian Academy, Mount Carmel School, Saipan Community School, and the Saipan International School would be joining the 2019 NSDA tournament in Texas in late June.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>With national tournament trip coordinator and DMS head coach Johanne Kristine Wolf leading the 15-member team, the NMI middle school national team for the NSDA performed their pieces over the weekend at the Fiesta Resort &amp; Spa Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have five veteran students on board and they have shared their experiences with the 10 new national competitors, hence I am trusting that, as in previous years, our students will excel,\u201d Wolf told <i>Saipan Tribune<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wolf, she recalled how October 2018\u2019s Super Typhoon Yutu made it difficult for the students to compete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Some of them had to drop from the pre-regional competitions\u2014not because they were less passionate but merely due to the circumstance,\u201d she noted. \u201cIt [was] a challenge to continue\u2026when our [script] pieces were part of the rubble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wolf said she owed it all to the coaches\u2014Criselda Aldan, Grace Duran, Maria Mettao, Victoria Nishida, Tina Goodwin, Anne McCaslin, Tatiana Ilmove, and herself\u2014that helped assemble the middle school-level NMI national team.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She noted that the team had been practicing since early March 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Aleeza Castro, a first-time NMI representative from DMS, said that she is nervous but is looking forward to the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to be good but I want to be better for my family and coach to prove to them that no matter who you are or what age you are, you can do anything,\u201d Castro said. \u201cI am going to try my best and have fun, but also win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Castro would be participating in the storytelling category.<\/p>\n<p>The national team consists of DMS\u2019 Oceana Teigita competing in poetry reading; SCS\u2019 Jesse Sablan competing in humorous interpretation; FMS\u2019 Aleeza Castro competing in storytelling; DMS\u2019 Danielle Formalejo competing in original oratory; GCA\u2019s Tae Hee competing in prose reading; FMS\u2019 Klin Deleon Guerrero competing in declamation; MCS\u2019 Jill Anne Mallari competing in declamation; SIS\u2019 Anastasiia Shamanaeva competing in Lincoln-Douglas debate; HMS\u2019 Edgardo Palma Jr. competing in dramatic interpretation; DMS\u2019 Issa Teigita competing in prose reading; SIS\u2019 Mylan Goodwin competing in impromptu speech; FMS\u2019 Eman Barce competing in poetry reading; GCA\u2019s Anthony Camacho competing in extemporaneous speaking; and DMS\u2019 Lars Anthony Wolf and Bernice Sabino competing in duo interpretation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 15-person CNMI team that will compete in the National Speech and Debate Association\u2019s tournament&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":299871,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[26,3312,38],"class_list":["post-299870","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-cnmi","tag-nsda","tag-saipan-tribune"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/299870","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/22"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=299870"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/299870\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/299871"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=299870"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=299870"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=299870"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
