Over 300 children and their parents checked out last Friday evening\u2019s 2nd Mommy and Me Fun Night at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.<\/p>\n

The event boasted several child-centric or kid-friendly booths that included the Community Guidance Center, the Crisis Counseling Program, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, Women\u2019s Affairs Office, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Commonwealth Health Care Corp.\u2019s Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the Northern Marianas College, among several others.<\/p>\n

Monique Sablan, the Office of the Governor\u2019s special assistant for the Youth Affairs Office, told Saipan Tribune yesterday that, while the exact number has not been confirmed, she recalls over 300 registered visitors for the evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole focus of this event\u2026is health, wellness, and self-care,\u201d Sablan said. \u201cEvery single booth has to do with making lives better for moms, mommy figures, daddy figures, or even [fathers] who play the double parent role.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also wanted to make sure that every single booth had something to offer to children, so while the parent is learning, the children are preoccupied with [booth activities],\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Unlike last year, this year\u2019s Mommy and Me Fun Night included parental figures that did not just focus on mothers and their children. This year, Sablan said, the event was open to all families while also keeping the event as gender-neutral as possible for the children.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe it is our job to deposit memories into a child\u2019s life. The role of my office is to develop and help [children] learn while promoting family and community development,\u201d Sablan said.<\/p>\n

The one-night event provided children with a space and time with their parents while ensuring that they have fun.<\/p>\n
