The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has acquired the free use of a warehouse in Lower Base where it plans to store $7 million worth of typhoon materials that are coming in and other equipment. <\/p>\n

During a CUC board meeting last Friday, CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho reported to the board that the facility, which has 35,000 square feet of space, is now available for CUC to store critical equipment and materials. He said the warehouse is being provided to CUC for free for the next five years.<\/p>\n

Camacho said the building, which is owned by the government, is in good shape and is safe for storing materials.<\/p>\n

To prepare the warehouse for CUC, the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office will be providing several loads of coral aggregate, while the Department of Public Works will help with its compactor.<\/p>\n

Camacho thanked Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres and Finance Secretary David Atalig for allowing CUC to use the warehouse for free for five years.<\/p>\n

He did not mention which government agency used to occupy the warehouse but said that CUC has had limited warehouse capabilities for a few years now because of its expanding system.<\/p>\n

With CUC\u2019s 24-hour water system and an expanding wastewater system throughout the island, along with typhoon materials worth $7 million that are arriving, CUC needs more storage space.<\/p>\n

Camacho said he told the governor\u2019s office and Atalig about CUC\u2019s challenges in housing the materials. \u201cWe were allowed to take and utilize for five years, rent-free, the warehouse in Lower Base,\u201d he said, adding that CUC staff, particularly those at the division of personnel, have been cleaning the building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
