A former social worker in the Child Protection Unit of the Division of Youth Services is still looking for a lawyer who will represent her in the sexual harassment lawsuit she filed against her then-supervisor in federal court last February.<\/p>\n
At a status conference last week, U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona ordered the complainant to submit a summary report of all attorneys she contacted.<\/p>\n
Manglona said the report should include the names of the lawyers, date of contact, and results.<\/p>\n
The complainant was ordered to reach out to three to five attorneys between that hearing until the next scheduled hearing.<\/p>\n
Saipan Tribune opted for the meantime to withhold the complainant\u2019s name. She appeared telephonically at the hearing since she is currently in the U.S. mainland.<\/p>\n
Manglona denied without prejudice the complainant\u2019s request to appoint a lawyer for her.<\/p>\n
Denial without prejudice means the court may grant the complainant\u2019s request for a court-appointed counsel in the future.<\/p>\n
Manglona set another status conference for July 17, 2019, at 8:30am. <\/p>\n
The complainant is left with no counsel after her first lawyer, Joseph E. Horey, withdrew last March. <\/p>\n
Horey agreed with Manglona that the complaint was not served yet on defendant Julian R. Camacho and co-defendants.<\/p>\n
Aside from plaintiff\u2019s then-supervisor Camacho, she named as co-defendants the CNMI government, and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs\u2019 DYS. <\/p>\n
The plaintiff is suing Camacho for violation of her civil rights, and the CNMI government and DCCA DYS for unlawful employment practices and violation of her civil rights.<\/p>\n
She is demanding damages, court costs, and attorney\u2019s fees in unspecified amount.<\/p>\n
According to the complaint, plaintiff was employed by the Commonwealth as a social worker in the Child Protection Unit of DYS from December 2012 to May 2014. <\/p>\n
Camacho allegedly repeatedly over the course of several months subjected the alleged victim to verbal and physical conduct of a sexual nature, including making sexual advances on her. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
