{"id":300873,"date":"2019-06-04T06:06:23","date_gmt":"2019-06-03T20:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=300873"},"modified":"2019-06-04T06:06:23","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T20:06:23","slug":"flu-like-illnesses-on-the-rise-on-tinian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/flu-like-illnesses-on-the-rise-on-tinian\/","title":{"rendered":"Flu-like illnesses on the rise on Tinian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Health Care Corp. is seeing a \u201csharp increase\u201d in flu-like illnesses on Tinian and advises the public to get vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>Citing its own surveillance data, CHCC said in a statement yesterday that it has observed \u201ca sharp increase in influenza-like illnesses occurring on Tinian in the past several weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInfluenza [or the flu] is a highly contagious viral disease. It is primarily spread by person-to-person contact through coughing or sneezing,\u201d the CHCC statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of the disease include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, fever, chills, and body aches.<\/p>\n<p>CHCC recommends a yearly flu shot for those who are six months or older.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVaccination is especially important for protecting those at high risk for serious flu complications, including young children, pregnant women, adults 65 years and older, and anyone with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease,\u201d the CHCC statement added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorsening conditions like shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, chest pain, very high and persistent fevers, and ear aches are signs that you should go see your doctor.
