“Students, to you ’tis giv’n to scan the heights\u00a0above, to traverse the ethereal space,\u00a0and mark the systems of revolving worlds.” Those are the words of Phyllis Wheatley, who was brought as a slave from Africa\u00a0to America in 1761, when she was 8 years old.\u00a0This quote is an excerpt from a letter she wrote, “To the University of Cambridge (now called Harvard University) in\u00a0New England” in 1773.
\nHere\u2019s a message I wrote back in 2015 to the last group of students I taught at THS. It is relevant now as they are the 2019 high school graduates and have the perspective to look back at their last four years.<\/p>\n
“For Tinian Jr. High School 8th grade graduates 2015,
\nNow you are graduating from eighth grade
\nyou have come a long way from Kindergarten
\non summer break read some books in the shade
\nit won\u2019t be long before high school\u2019s startin.<\/p>\n
As you proceed through educational transitions
\nuse your newly learned skills for the next four years
\nkeep focused on these new learning acquisitions
\nthinking and reading help shift your mental gears.<\/p>\n
What will your high school experience be?
\nit\u2019s all up to you, just try every day
\nread all you can, let your questions run free
\njoin in discussions, have something to say.<\/p>\n
Keep the best of your junior high school learning!

\ninvolved with learning year after school year
\nnow face the travail of a life long journey
\ntowards success as they grin from ear to ear.

\nbegins the moment when they go out and do it.<\/p>\n
