{"id":301428,"date":"2019-06-13T06:06:49","date_gmt":"2019-06-12T20:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=301428"},"modified":"2019-06-13T06:06:49","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T20:06:49","slug":"podziewski-leads-mhs-class-of-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/podziewski-leads-mhs-class-of-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Podziewski leads MHS\u2019 Class of 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_301442\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-301442\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/mhs-graduation-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/mhs-graduation-pix.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"230\" class=\"size-full wp-image-301442\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-301442\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Top 10 graduates of Marianas High School pose for a photo.<br \/>(REICA RAMIREZ)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After more than a two-hour-long open-air commencement exercise, a total of 322 members of Marianas High School\u2019s Class of 2019 received their diplomas last Tuesday at the school\u2019s grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The class valedictorian, Dai Podziewski, urged his fellow graduates in his speech to \u201cdream the dream\u2026take [the] risks and embrace the challenge.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He also reminded his fellow graduates how special and talented they are. \u201cWe are artists, athletes, fishermen, dancers, musicians, scientists, mathematicians, photographers, videographers, debaters, public speakers, actors, writers, and designers. We\u2019re special and we\u2019re alive here in this moment together.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_301444\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-301444\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Dai-Podziewski.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Dai-Podziewski-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-301444\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-301444\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DAI PODZIEWSKI-<br \/>Board of Education Award,<br \/>Valedictorian<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Podziewski skillfully balanced academics, athletics, community service, and leadership roles throughout high school. He hopes that feat will make him a role model to younger student athletes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust because they are an athlete doesn\u2019t mean that they can\u2019t excel in academics,\u201d he said in a later interview with Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>He feels pride and honor at being named the valedictorian because he believes it caps all his hard work throughout high school. <\/p>\n<p>Podziewski will pursue a major in journalism at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. Additionally, he will be playing NCAA Division III Men\u2019s Soccer for the university. <\/p>\n<p>Class salutatorian Cole Chambers reminded his fellow graduates to \u201cremember the people that have helped and supported us along the way\u201d and is grateful that he spent his four years of high school at MHS. \u201cIt is you, the students and the faculty, that turned this school into a second family, supporting everyone along the way. I couldn\u2019t have been happier with how these last four years turned out.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_301446\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-301446\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Cole-Chambers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Cole-Chambers-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-301446\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-301446\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">COLE CHAMBERS-<br \/>Commissioner\u2019s Award,<br \/>Salutatorian<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chambers will pursue a major in civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. <\/p>\n<p>Podziewski also received the Board of Education Award, while Chambers received the Commissioner of Education Award.<\/p>\n<p>Pionnah Rosej Gregorio received the Service Recognition award. Mozelle Campo received the Governor\u2019s Leadership award. Soledad Cecilia Camacho received the Principal\u2019s Award.<\/p>\n<p>The top 10 highest honors were Podziewski, Chambers, Jonah Pohl, Marielle Anne Sambilay, Nicole Ira Mascarinas, Ruoxiang John Lu, Ian Rei Cataluna, Gaeun Yang, Mimi Sakano, and Lourdes Nicole Ocaya.
