Borja Amphitheater on Tinian, with Colleen M. Aquiningoc and Lesley A. Mahilum leading the Class of 2019 as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

In her valedictory address, Aquiningoc noted that, although Tinian faces several adversities, the struggle is what makes Tinian High School students who they are.

“We’ve learned to take negatives and tune them into positive. …This is why I’m proud to be from Tinian. I will never forget where I am from and continue to strive to make my island proud,” she said. “I am no ordinary woman; my dreams come true.”

Aquiningoc expressed gratitude for her friends, late grandmother, and parents. “…I love you both so much and I will pay you both back for [everything]. I promise. Everything I do, I do for you guys,” she said.

In her salutatory address, Mahilum gave lower-year students some tips on how to do well in school.

Mahilum highlighted the importance of challenging yourself but not “to the point where it’s hurting.”

“Manage your time wisely. Do hours when you can, do that homework you’ve been avoiding for two days. If something can be finished in five minutes, do it now instead of later,” she added.

“There is no need to live your life based on the standards of others. Everyone says to dream big, but I don’t think that you have to live so fiercely like that all the time,” she added.

The graduation ceremony also recognized the Top 10 students of the high school: Jodrik R. Mendiola, Carmina Borja, Crizia P. Rodriguez, Dyna Mae Penaranda, Anthony G. Canlas, Renuka M. Shrestha, Jovilyn M. Ancheta, and Isa Rae C. Dela Cruz, in addition to Mahilum and Aquiningoc.

[4

post-301922","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
