{"id":302089,"date":"2019-06-21T06:06:55","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T20:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=302089"},"modified":"2019-06-21T06:06:55","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T20:06:55","slug":"libday-festivities-kick-off-next-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/libday-festivities-kick-off-next-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"LibDay festivities kick off next Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Get ready, Marianas! <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s that time of the year again for the islands\u2019 signature event, as the CNMI Liberation Day festivities kick off next Thursday, June 27, starting at 6pm at the Garapan Fishing Base.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is \u201cMarianas Strong,\u201d celebrating resiliency and freedom.\u00a0The festivities will run from next Thursday through July 6, 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Marianas has remained resilient in the face of great change,\u201d said Mayor David M. Apatang. \u201cFrom the liberation of Camp Susupe, to our fight for self-determination, to the creation of a Commonwealth in political union with the United States, and through some of the worst storms on record, our people overcame the greatest odds in order to build a unique community that is rich in culture and stronger than any typhoon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liberation Day Committee chair Joe Ayuyu Jr. said that that resiliency \u201crepresents our story of struggle, triumph, and love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe struggle to build a brighter future for the next generation, the triumph over the biggest of challenges, and the love we have for our families and friends represent the continuing story of the Marianas,\u201d Ayuyu added. \u201cFreedom represents the opportunities we enjoy today because of the sacrifices of our ancestors and those who fought bravely for our islands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Committee vice chair Shayne Villanueva invites all families, friends, and tourists of the CNMI to the Liberation Day festivities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have prepared a great lineup of entertainment, new carnival games, and several sweet and savory food items,\u201d Villanueva said. \u201cOur 73rd Liberation Festivities theme, \u2018Marianas Strong,\u2019 will be seen throughout our grounds and our parade. Let us celebrate, but most importantly, remember our history and culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Press secretary Kevin Bautista, who is also the committee\u2019s marketing and public relations chairman, said this year\u2019s theme \u201cis a celebration of our story as a community and represents the spirit of inafa\u2019maolek and tipiyeew that will guide our islands toward the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 CNMI Liberation Day Committee invite the public to the opening ceremony of the Liberation Day carnival grounds next Thursday, June 27, at 6pm at the Garapan Fishing Base.<\/p>\n<p>The carnival will be open every night at 6pm beginning next Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 CNMI Liberation Day Committee will be providing more updates of the festivities and the annual Liberation Day parade and entertainment lineup.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit\u00a0saipanmayor.net\u00a0or the 2019 CNMI Liberation Day Facebook page at\u00a0www.facebook.com\/CNMILiberationDay.
