There would be no street market at the Garapan Fishing Base until late July 2019 to make way for the 2019 Liberation Day festivities.<\/p>\n
Commonwealth Council of Arts and Culture executive director Parker Yobei noted in an interview yesterday that the Thursday night street market was suspended starting yesterday and would remain suspended until July 18 to make way for the 2019 Liberation Day festivities.<\/p>\n
He clarified that while the Liberation Day festivities is from June 27 up to July 6, 2019, there would be a one-week cushion to allow for both the preparations and clearing of the tents and equipment used for the festivities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Liberation [Day] activities are going to be held at the Garapan Fishing Base, so we have to cancel the street market for the duration of the Liberation Day activities,\u201d he said. \u201c[The street market is] coming back on July 18, 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yobei noted that the usual street market vendors have already been notified of the changes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe talked to our vendors and they do understand,\u201d he said, adding that most of the vendors that participate in the weekly street market would also be participating in the Liberation Day festivities. <\/p>\n
