Rain or shine, the 73rd Liberation Day Parade is happening today, July 4.<\/p>\n
Weather forecasts predict that Saipan will be experiencing rain throughout the entire day, leaving the parade vulnerable to a downpour. But the Liberation Day Parade Committee is ready for that.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t control the weather, but we are prepared to go rain or shine,\u201d said parade subcommittee chair Brad Ruszala.<\/p>\n
He hopes the weather holds out for spectators, but he said the subcommittee is ready for any scenario of rain to appear. <\/p>\n
Ruszala thanked the hard work and dedication of Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, the Mayor\u2019s Office of Saipan staff, and the Department of Public Lands for helping assemble many tents and the grandstand yesterday. He said it was also inspiring to see the many organizations that have committed to participate in the parade.<\/p>\n
He also credits Luise Villagomez for preparing the subcommittee for a successful parade. \u201cWithout her, it would have been infinitely more difficult to organize the signature event of our celebration,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n
The theme of this year\u2019s Liberation Day celebration is \u201cMarianas Strong.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone was affected by Super Typhoon Yutu in one way or another, so it will be great to gather together to celebrate the resilience of our community,\u201d Ruszala said. <\/p>\n
In a separate statement, Rep. Luis John Castro (R-Saipan) wishes the entire Marianas to enjoy this year\u2019s celebration. <\/p>\n
The parade will be hosting the annual float competition with a total of eight competitive float entries and six non-competitive float entries, with the Top 4 winners getting cash prizes.
