{"id":303383,"date":"2019-07-12T06:02:56","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T20:02:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=303383"},"modified":"2019-07-12T06:02:56","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T20:02:56","slug":"back-to-back-for-bears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/back-to-back-for-bears\/","title":{"rendered":"Back-to-back for Bears"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chalan Kanoa Bears made it two in a row after topping the Mariners, 13-6, in their game in the 2019 Saipan Baseball League last Saturday at the Francisco \u201cTan Ko\u201d Palacios Ballfied.<\/p>\n<p>A nine-run top of the fifth inning allowed the Bears to break the deadlock en route to taking their second victory in as many games after downing Go See Mark during the league\u2019s opening week.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears-Mariners match was tied at 4-all after four complete innings. Anthony Tenorio hit a two-run double at the bottom of the second for the Mariners, who got their two other runs in the same inning. The defending champions Bears, on the other hand, tallied one run at the top of the first and added three\u2014two earned and one off a wild pitch\u2014in the fourth inning, too.<\/p>\n<p>Then at the top of the fifth, the Bears gained a cushion after capitalizing on the Mariners\u2019 miscues. Six of the Bears\u2019 nine runs in the crucial inning came from the Mariners\u2019s errors. Virgil Secharmidal and Henry Lizama both batted twice and scored two runs apiece, lifting the Bears to a 13-4 advantage.<\/p>\n<p>The Mariners never recovered, as they were shut down in the fifth and seventh innings. The Bears got the three quick outs at the bottom of the fifth. At the bottom of the sixth, another two-run double from Tenorio kept the Mariners\u2019 in the game, before the shortstop was beaten to third on a rundown play for the last out.
