Apatang informed Saipan Tribune yesterday that the current austerity measures being implemented governmentwide are affecting the program\u2019s funds, hence the need for donations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re currently in austerity and we need help,\u201d Apatang added.<\/p>\n<p>The animals are currently being sheltered in a temporary facility in Lower Base.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor\u2019s office animal program is different from other animal care programs on the island, because other programs can solicit fund. The mayor\u2019s office animal program is just requesting for animal food. \u201cWe are not getting any funding for food unless somebody wants to contribute by donating animal foods,\u201d Apatang added.<\/p>\n<p>The animal program is currently housing stray dogs and cats that were found by the office\u2019s animal control program.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about making donations, contact the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office at (670) 234-6208.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office animal program is currently seeking donations of animal food.
