{"id":303756,"date":"2019-07-17T06:00:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T20:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=303756"},"modified":"2019-07-17T06:00:55","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T20:00:55","slug":"police-on-the-lookout-for-reckless-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/police-on-the-lookout-for-reckless-driving\/","title":{"rendered":"Police on the lookout for reckless driving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reckless drivers, beware! <\/p>\n<p>This week, the police will be watching for reckless drivers.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the annual Operation Safe Driver Week event during the week of July 14-20, the Department of Public Safety\u2019s Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program section will be on the lookout for commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in dangerous driver behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Such drivers will be pulled over by law enforcement and may be issued a citation. <\/p>\n<p>The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance emphasizes the importance of driver behavior, citing a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistic that driver actions contributed to 94% of all traffic crashes.<\/p>\n<p>Each Operation Driver Week has a point of emphasis for enforcement and this year\u2019s emphasis is on speeding. <\/p>\n<p>In 2017, speeding contributed to 26% of all traffic fatalities, affecting over 9,700 lives, according to NHTSA. Specifically, speeding of any kind was the most frequent driver-related crash factor for drivers of commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles, according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration\u2019s 2016 Large Truck and Bus Facts.<\/p>\n<p>During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement jurisdictions throughout North America and its territories will be endorsing, promoting, and supporting the following message: Late won\u2019t kill you, speeding will.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the emphasis on speeding, DPS MCSAP personnel will be tracking other dangerous driver behaviors throughout Operation Safe Driver Week, such as distracted driving, texting, failure to use a seatbelt, following too closely, improper lane change, reckless or aggressive driving, failure to obey traffic control devices, evidence of drunk or drugged driving, etc. <strong>(PR)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reckless drivers, beware!
