A man who was arrested after being allegedly caught with methamphetamine or \u201cice\u201d following a police stop waived his right to a preliminary hearing last Monday.<\/p>\n
Derik Jonathan Reyes, 38, through his lawyer, assistant public defender Stephanie Boutsicaris, submitted a waiver to the Superior Court prior to the preliminary hearing.<\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho vacated Reyes\u2019 preliminary hearing date and his arraignment is set for July 29.<\/p>\n
According to Saipan Tribune archives, Reyes was arrested last week for illegal possession of a controlled substance that was allegedly found inside his vehicle after his car was searched when police noticed what looked to be a gun case sitting in his car\u2019s back seat.<\/p>\n
Police pulled over Reyes\u2019 black sports utility vehicle, or SUV, at around 3:15am on July 12 because he was driving without headlights.<\/p>\n
Reyes had a passenger in the car, CNMI Drug Court program graduate Robert Camacho Torres, who was also allegedly found in possession of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n
Police allegedly noticed that a black case labeled \u201cColt Governm. 1911\u201d and a GoPro camera case in the back seat of Reyes\u2019 SUV and made him aware of what had been spotted. Police immediately ordered Reyes and Torres to put their hands on the wheel and dashboard of the car. Torres, however, failed to comply so police opened the passenger door and spotted a pipe, straw, and a Ziplock bag beneath the passenger seat before ordering both Torres and Reyes to exit the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Police searched the black gun case and the GoPro case and were able to procure a glass pipe within the GoPro case.<\/p>\n
A K-9 investigation was conducted on both the car and Reyes and police were able to procure a silver-gray digital scale, a blue lighter, Ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance, a broken glass pipe with residue, multiple Ziplock bags with residue, and more.<\/p>\n
