The Commonwealth Health Care Corp. does not consider itself to have a shortage of doctors as it is continuously recruiting physicians, according to CHCC spokesperson Zoe Travis. <\/p>\n
In response to a Saipan Tribune\u2019s inquiry, Travis said Friday that there isn\u2019t simply a set number that they are hiring or that they are working to get up to.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are constantly assessing our needs based on the population, health concerns in the CNMI, and what specialties we can offer,\u201d she said, citing their recent addition of an oncologist and oncology services.<\/p>\n
She said this is the same with every hospital. \u201cNo one facility can have every single type of specialist.\u201d<\/p>\n
Travis pointed out that to say that there is a shortage of doctors implies a deficit in the services provided, which is not the case with CHCC.<\/p>\n
She said they know, however, that they can continue to improve their services by recruiting more providers and introducing new specialties.<\/p>\n
With respect to three doctors listed as new applicants and five doctors as renewal applicants with CHCC, Travis said information about CHCC board\u2019s decision is not available to the public as of now because it was discussed during an executive session. CHCC will release updates as they become available.<\/p>\n
